Shoe psychology is the idea that women choose the shoes they wear based on their personality.

Shoe psychology is actually very logical. Shoes are worn below the visual line of sight. When you meet someone you formulate a judgement about them in the first 60 seconds based on the clothes they are wearing and other sensory stimulations. It is very rare to look at someone’s feet in the first 60 seconds of meeting them face to face. So most women will tend to dress their bodies how they want others to perceive them but they will let their true personality shine through in their shoes, the safe zone below the knees.

Sections of this bi-monthly e-newsletter will be devoted to Shoe Psychology and its fun application in things such as the shoe readings of members and celebrities.

If you would like me to do a shoe reading for you, just email me a photo of your favourite pair of shoes to editor@shoesforher.com.

A suede for all occasions.

Yes this is the season we all get the chance to gaze on the new styles for the coming season. London, Melbourne and New York, the truth is out there.

In 2007 almost anything and indeed nearly everything can be fashionable and all at the same time, too. The seasons ahead see a crash of culture leading to a cacophony of styles. 50s glamour meets a return to nature with colour and finish the only determinant of fashion from costume.

Distinction is the mark of quality as flats and sensible wedges share the same catwalk with heels and platforms as peek-a-boo toes complete with covered shoes, and round toes and points continue to coexist on the feet of the fashionista.

The seasons ahead are about being bright and shiny with metallic finishes, acid colours and glamour the predominant overture. Audrey Hepburn’s flat ballet shoes with a Sabrina heel, grace the feet of the sleek with a suede for all seasons.

All that glistens is not gold however and leather are worn with shimmering silver either an all-over shine (patent leather) or trim detail in piping or buckle. Golden glitters in moc-croc leather platform or sashaying wedges give a hint of fashionable bling especially on high heels with contrast stitching, buckle detail, chains or jewels all to the fore. Bows, embroidery and shoe jewellery continue to complement the simplest lines as black and grey are passé. Hot pink, electric blue, jade green and shiny pillar box red, are the hues of 2007.

Toe cleavage gives the opportunity to decorate the nails with pedicure an essential accessory. For the winter fashionable gummies are all the range and combine style, practicality and comfort.

Crocs continue to sell well in adults and children ranges and now available as the original clog, thongs, Mary Janes and gummie boots. Crocs have become the number one fashion accessory for celebs with Al Pacino to Teri Hatcher showing no fear, strapping on their bright rubber clogs. Crocs are made of a patented Closed Cell Resin, which provides a non-slip shoe which moulds fully to the shape of your foot with wear. Definite winner for both indoors and outdoors, as smart and casual.

Being in sync with spring/summer 2007 is all about finding where your own personal style is on the range of trends .

How many pairs of shoes do you currently have?
118 pairs and counting. The number would have probably been higher but I've been very busy organising my Wedding (in May). I haven't had a chance to do much shoe shopping. However, I will shortly be looking
for my wedding shoes and can't wait to find the perfect pair!

Most embarrassing shoe moment?
A few years ago on a Friday night, I had a few too many "after work drinkies". In my inebriated state, I stumbled past a shoe sale in the Hay Street Mall. Much too my delight most of the shoes on sale were size 5 (and being a size 4 I was happy that they were all a small make). Anyway, too cut a long story short, I bought 8 pairs. What I didn't think about was the fact that I had to catch the bus home. What a sight I must have looked staggering onto the crowded bus, trying to pay the
bus driver with both hands full and then trying to sit next some someone comfortably with 8 boxes on my lap. That's dedication for you...

Best shoe memory? (or favorite pair of shoes)
I went to Bangkok 2 years ago, the highlight of my trip being "shoe shopping". Buying shoes in Asia is a delight (for us little feet people) because having small feet is no drama at all. If it wasn't for the fear of having too pay a lot of money for "overweight luggage" I would have bought more than 13 pairs. I can't wait to go back for more!

Best shoe bargain?
On my Bangkok trip I bought a pair of black skin tight soft leather boots (which come just under the knee). They are my favourite because I have really skinny ankles, and they are the only pair of boots I can wear without having to scrunch up socks at the ankles to fill them
out... They were only $20 (Aus), the other 12 pairs ranged from $4 -$10.
Gotta love a bargain!

Shoe advice to live by?
If the shoe fits....buy it!

1. Always stick to your own unique sense of style, its not about trends, what’s hot and what’s not, more often than not designers seek inspiration from what they see on the street, so if its not you its not fashion.

2. A shoe is not just a shoe! Shoes are like the all important side-kick to your outfit, they have their own personality, time and place, a great shoe can sometimes overtake the need for frivolous accessories and complement your look all on its own.

3. Experiment with pattern, colour and shape, fashion is meant to be all about fun and fantasy, so don’t be afraid to step out... try new things and express yourself.

4. Always wear clothes for your body type. There’s nothing worse than seeing a human tent or a walking muffin.

5. Stick to the basics. We all need our safety nets, in fashion these are your favourite pair of jeans and the little black dress you can wear on any occasion.
